Former GCC student, Lionell Ball earns first major internship opportunity in the music industry at Jivemind-cooperative music lab located in downtown Glendale.
Music was such an avid part of Lionell’s life, it came as no surprise that he decided to pursue it as a career. Inevitably, Lionel earned an Applied Science associate degree in Audio Production Technologies from GCC in 2006.
GCC’s music-education program broadened Ball’s horizon tremendously with teaching him things he never thought was necessary to learn about within the music field. With GCC’s help, he learned how to read and write scales, music, and other basics. He also became intimately familiar with the music business nuances such as how business arrangements and contracts are formulated.
Lionell was also heavily involved with extracurricular activities on campus such as: honor society Phi Theta Kappa, where he served as vice-president of service. He was a board member of Associated Student Government (ASG) and a student leader in Male Empowerment Network.
It was a combination of getting involved and his academic pursuits at GCC that inevitably pushed him to take the initiative to land his internship at Jive. Jive is for providing instruments, rehearsal space, and a recording studio for starving artists who are wanting to establish themselves.
Ball would eventually like to have his very own studio where he can inspire and motivate up and coming artists. Only time will tell what other successes will come from this ambitious GCC alum!
