Glendale Community College’s fall production of “The 39 Steps” opens November 13 in the GCC Preforming Arts Center at 7 p.m.
The play is adapted by playwright and actor Patrick Barlow. The show is being directed by the head of Glendale Community College’s Theatre Department, David Seitz, who has also directed many other shows at GCC. The 39 Steps will be GCC’s second play of the 2015 fall semester.
“‘The 39 Steps’ is a comedy based around Alfred Hitchcock’s famous films, it’s mostly a homage to his work,” said Emilly Katz, assistant stage manager for the production.
The exact synopsis from the GCC event description is: “Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have ‘The 39 Steps.’”
Katz and many other students have been putting in hours upon hours of work to make this show possible. “I’m expecting it to be a success,” she added.
It is Katz first semester in the theatre program at GCC, working towards a degree in preforming arts. Katz, as well as the many other students in the department, is very excited to show the public what they have been working on so hard the past few months.
“‘The 39 Steps’” seems to be a very fun play according to Katz. Katz didn’t seem to want to revel too much about the storyline of the play, she said that you will have to come find out.
“I always love the shows [GCC Theatre] puts on every few months,” said Sean Singer, a film student at GCC. “They are always very fun and just a great time.”
Although Sean has not been a GCC student for long, he has seen many of the shows due to his other family being involved with the school and community.
Singer has a love of theatre and is always very excited to see what the Glendale Community College Theatre program has in store every new semester. “I’ve always had a love for theatre, and [the shows] always make me wish I had time to do theatre again,” said Singer. “Cactus Flower, the show they did earlier this semester, was really a great time. I can’t wait for the next one.”
The show is composed of four actors, playing over 150 characters all inspired by Hitchcock’s films. Any lover of Hitchcock is sure to love this fun night.
The show is full of “nonstop laughs, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!”
“The 39 Steps” has showings November 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with a special matinee showing on the 19 at 2:30 p.m.. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for GCC students, Seniors over 55 and Alumni with ID.
Tickets can be purchased in advanced to ensure your seat on the main GCC website under the theatrical preforming arts department’s page.
