The Glendale Community College football team was defeated the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds by a score of 56-19 on Saturday, Sept. 1 at GCC.
The Thunderbird offense was led by former Pittsburg University quarterback Thomas Macvittie who threw for 238 passing yards and threw four touchdown passes and two interceptions.
Thunderbird wide receiver Shaun Richards would be the main target for Macvittie as Richards would have 109 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Thunderbirds also had a very productive ground game as well. Mesa had a combined total 285 rushing yards with the majority of those yards going to Thunderbird running back Terrance Roberts Jr who had 116 yards and a touchdown.
The Gauchos would struggle offensively the entire game. The Gauchos would use all three quarterbacks on their roster.
All three quarterbacks would combine for 116 passing yards and two interceptions. Quarterback Mason Nguyen would lead the trio of quarterbacks with 58 passing yards.
At the end of first half of the game the Gaucho gave 41 points to the Thunderbirds. The Gaucho defense had their stops in the game but Mesa’s offense seemed too much for them to handle.
Gauchos strong safety Rashie Hodge would be the recipient of both interceptions thrown by MacVittie.
“We’re undisciplined, defensively undisciplined, not getting lined up right, not getting the right calls, not getting the right coverage call. It’s all visual, there’s no huddle, no audio type calls all 11 got to get the call, there’s no excuse when you say I didn’t get the call.” Gauchos head coach Mickey Bell said.
The next game for the Gauchos is their first away game at Phoenix College on Saturday Sept. 8. Kickoff begins at 7 p.m.
